The .XXX TLD is by far the most ineffective attempt to filter porn by ICANN, the International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. This extension was launched by them to help parents keep a check and prohibit their child from accessing any site ending with .xxx. At the same time, adult websites can still operate their content on .com and other extensions. This makes .xxx an ineffective tool. But like all extensions, the .xxx does offer some investment opportunities.

Should you invest in .xxx domain name?

To answer that question, let me tell you what is the current demand state of .xxx. The company that is in charge of managing the .xxx extension is the ICM registry. They are a Florida based company. The sale of .xxx domain names went live on December 6th. And what has happened is non-sexual and respectable universities/organizations are scrambling to grab .xxx domain names for their brand. Surprised? Here is why: a spokesman for the University of Michigan said, “This is viewed as a rational and practical step to protecting our image.” It’s true—the school certainly doesn’t want some porn company launching a GirlsOfMichiganUniversity.xxx website.

But what is the investment opportunity for internet entrepreneurs here?

It could be a wise option not to invest in a .xxx domain name. Your investment could take a long time to yield returns.

Some reasons why you should not invest in a .xxx

Most porn companies are still operating on .com and are not really switching to .xxx. If anything, they are only purchasing .xxx related to their brand.

The amount of complications and possible legal actions are not worth the investment. Some adult companies are giving legal threats against ICANN to colleges that have booked .xxx combinations to protect their good image.

History has shown that no other TLD other than .com has really caught on. The .xxx sure looks like it is going down the drain as well.

Some reason why you should invest in a .xxx domain name

The above mentioned points are some of the cons of investing in .xxx. However, there is a tendency that when .xxx investments give returns, they might pay back in a very big way. It could be a wise investment if you are ready to sit with it for a long time.

A quick tip, unethical though it may be. You can invest in .xxx extensions for brands that are non-adult, they will usually come scrambling for buying that domain from you considering the potential image risk they will carry.

So, it completely boils down to you for making a call to invest. It may not be a definitive returns market but it might be worth a shot at. The .xxx domain names will also be heavier on your pockets. They cost $70 which is almost 7 times the regular price of a .com extension and such.

Namecheap has started sale of .xxx domain extension at a special introductory discount. You can buy a .xxx domain name from Namecheap.

Who to buy domain names from can be a difficult choice. Namecheap is much better than GoDaddy when it comes to buying domain names. I have used both the services and I really like Namecheap.

And for newbie bloggers and internet entrepreneurs it can a bit of a choice when it comes to these two giants of the industry. So here is my clear cut advice: Avoid GoDaddy at all costs and use Namecheap to buy your domain names.

Why Namecheap is Better than GoDaddy?

And to support my statement, here are 7 strong reasons why I found Namecheap better than GoDaddy:

If you want a domain name registrar that constantly bombards you with unwanted promotional offers every time you log in to your control panel and open your email – use GoDaddy. Namecheap on the other hand is very sensitive about its users’ privacy.

GoDaddy has a terrible user interface, and I am very serious when I mean terrible – they have ads all across their dashboard and you would take light years to figure out where you can edit the domain name settings for a particular domain name. Namecheap has a best in industry user interface that will allow you to easily edit your settings. And a no-ad policy on their pages.

GoDaddy is impossible to use if you buy multiple domains from them. The amount of time you can save in managing domains with Namecheap’s minimalist interface is amazing.

GoDaddy is plagued with constant upsells and ads on their site. If you ever visit the GoDaddy homepage and Namecheap homepage – the difference in class is clearly visible. The GoDaddy site looks awful, they just rely on expensive marketing budgets and zero quality of service.

Namecheap is much more inexpensive compared to GoDaddy, GoDaddy has irregular pricing and many hidden charges. On the other hand, Namecheap has a clear domain name price that does not fluctuate. And with every domain name you buy they give free WhoIs Guard protection for the domain name (a freebie that GoDaddy or any other domain name registrar does not dare offer).

Namecheap coupons are much more effective and help you to cut prices to a far greater extent as compared to GoDaddy. You might end up hunting for hours for a coupon on GoDaddy and still not get one that is giving good discounts.

Lastly, if you have a slow internet connection, then you can forget about using GoDaddy with the time their website takes to load.

Collegefallout is registered on Namecheap and I have never had any issues with their service or customer care.

Check out Namecheap

Web analytic tools are important for bloggers and internet entrepreneurs who are serious about taking their website to the next level. These tools are your best bet to track how visitors to your website/blog behave and gain valuable information on what sort of visitors prefer your site.

The information that is given by these web analytic tools are so valuable that it can be utilized to increase your traffic and improve product conversions, since you have an in-depth understanding of who and what your visitors are/want. Studying website analytics is equivalent to gathering traffic intelligence.

Website analytic tools have largely to do with user experience. They are designed to improve the users experience on your website thereby helping you to retain traffic and gain repeat visitors. Also, these tools can tell you what is the user’s preferred content.

What is a web analytic tool?

Web analytic tools are tools which allow you to access data about your visitor’s behavior and preferences.

In essence, they basically provide the following data:

Location of your visitors

What part of Earth attracts the most number of traffic to your website. It is very important since, this can help you decide what part of the world do you need to cater your content to. It is basically optimizing your site’s potential.

Your visitor’s behavior

Visitor behavior on your website may mean, the amount of time that is spent by users from different locations on different content. Their recency and depth of visits can also be studied. Visitor loyalty is a parameter that you need to look closely – this is what web analytic tools can help you with. You can also track what pages cause the increase in bounce rate of your website etc.

Which sites send you visitors

This is perhaps the most valuable information that web analytic tools are able to provide. It can help you understand which search engines and which sites are sending in your traffic. You can also gain all the reports on what keywords send in the maximum visitors your way. All this is valuable input that can help you grow your website faster.

The above is just a broad idea about the potential benefits of using a web analytic tool. These are the best website analytic tools that you can use if you are a blogger or an internet entrepreneur:

List of the best website analytic tools

Google Analytics

Google Analytics: Its free and the best. Google analytic is a website analytic tools that can give you a very most in-depth traffic data. It has now started to provide with real-time data to all webmasters – which is an enterprise level tool to analyze visitor trends to your site. Real time data is extremely useful because you can begin to study your users behavior immediately once you launch a new feature on your page. It is extremely user friendly and then you will usually find that the amount of data is actually pretty over whelming.

You will find Google Analytics extremely easy to setup on your website and at the same time, the ease of use to access the complex and invaluable information makes it the best analytic tool personally. Its integration with other Google products such as Google Adsense and Google Adwords makes it really indispensable for any webmaster who is serious about their website.

KissMetrics

KissMetrics is co-founded by one of my favorite internet entrepreneurs – Neil Patel. After Google Analytics, KissMetrics is easily a great option for webmasters. KissMetrics can let you know with pin point accuracy about what pages and campaigns are helping you convert a visitor into a customer. They pride themselves on their super simple user interface and the ability to help you prioritize on what parameters should you really focus on. It is particularly helpful because there are literally thousands of parameters that a webmaster can track and at times, it can get quite overwhelming.

CrazyEgg

CrazyEgg is a powerful web analytic tool because it gives you all your data in a visual version. You can visualize all your traffic data – so it makes reading and interpreting your visitor analytic much more easier and efficient. They have a feature called Site heat map which is perhaps a one of a kind feature that no other web analytic tool offers its customers. The heat map gives you a visual overlay about the hot spots on your website that visitors click the most. It can be a source of invaluable information to figure out what elements on your sites convert the best. CrazyEgg can be extremly useful for ecommerce owners.

GetClicky

GetClicky is a very popular service. I have personally never used this analytic tool, but I am including it in the top list because it is really one of the best web analytic tool for beginners. Google Analytics, MixPanel may end up giving more information than needed sometimes. But GetClicky will help you with a super easy interface that can help you interpret things more easily.

MixPanel

MixPanel used to market themselves as real time web analytics (i.e. before Google launched their own real time analytics, recently) – they still do pride themselves as real time web analytic service.

They have a funnel analysis feature in their service that helps you improve conversions by learning where users drop off on their way to a purchase. Mixpanel also lets you segment by anything - such as where a user came from. These features are pretty much like Google Analytics.

In conclusion, I highly recommend Google Analytics and KissMetrics, they are two very powerful analytic tools for your website. And I believe that it should be used in combination so that you can make the most out of your traffic data.

Which web analytic tool do you utilize? Tell me below.

Any intelligent web master would rather have 100 visitors who return regularly as opposed to 500 visitors who only visit once or twice (with poor loyalty). This is especially important when it comes to building a brand loyalty.

The reason why you should actually spend time pondering about making your website as sticky as possible is because visitors who return regularly are more likely to purchase some of your products or services. This post will discuss tactics that a webmaster can use to draw people back to their site again and again.

Also the word-of-mouth marketing is the most effective way to build a brand. A set of faithful followers will encourage viral promotion of your site and develop a highly engaged audience for you to market to. So here are some tactics to keep bringing people back to your business website:

Community

Invest in your website such that it builds a sense of community. The most basic way to do this is by attracting an audience which has similar interests. A few ways to build a sense of community can be by:

Providing message forums

chat rooms

Facebook page

podcasts

user profiles

blogs etc.

These are some effective tools that will allow your visitors to interact with each other. Once you do succeed in getting these like-minded people to connect then you know that you have finally created a community that is all ears to what you have to say. And most of important of all, a visitor who feels as a part of a community will always return back to the site again. Any site which is able to create a thriving community will always do excellent business.

Communication

Communication includes building and maintaining a list and contacting them as well as interacting with visitors to your site. This can be done by active response to any question, comments, or feedback that you may receive. Basically, communication is important if you want to emotionally engage your visitor with the website. No one wants to come into a place where they are not taken seriously and it is the same case with business websites – they all need to be heard to and interacted with. And once you satisfy this need to be communicate, you will build relationships that will compel them to return back to your site.

A very important note on communication: make sure that all your contact details or contact forms are easily accessible as well as visible. The last thing you would want is a frustrated visitor who just can’t figure out how to reach you.

Commerce and Consumer Confidence

Be very clear in letting your consumers and visitors know that you take their privacy and time very seriously. There are a few steps that you could ensure to build commerce and consumer confidence:

If your payment gateway looks unsafe or fishy, then you kiss your customer goodbye and it is a sale that was about to happen lost. Use trusted payment gateways that people recognize even if you would have to invest in a few extra bucks.

Offering money back guarantee’s can be pretty effective as well in most cases.

Build consumer confidence by ranking well in Google for the keywords that your site is aiming for. It goes a long way to build credibility.

Include an easily accessible Privacy Policy page as well.

This post includes 3 effective tactics to ensure that your visitors are not just a visitor but in fact converted into an engaged and potential customer for your internet business.

If you are an internet entrepreneur who runs a simple blog to perhaps who runs a business website that caters to thousands of quotes daily. There is a high probability that your schedule is crunched. This is why it is very important to steal as many minutes as you can out of a day so that you can use it later to relax.

Most internet entrepreneurs can burn out pretty bad due to the hectic schedules. These 10 tips from experts to save time will help you find the valuable relaxation time where you need not worry about your business. What these tips do is shave off the time that you would usually spend on things. These are smart ways to make more time for yourself in a day.

In this post, popular internet entrepreneurs will share their wisdom on how to save time from a day and benefit from it.

Here are 10 ways internet entrepreneurs can steal valuable time in a day:

Jonathan Fields, JonathanFields.com

“Exercise – It sounds counter-intuitive. You have to spend time exercising. But, research has shown that exercise boosts cognitive function, creativity, problem solving and productivity. In fact a NASA study showed employees who exercised daily worked at 100% efficiency after 7 hours, while those who didn’t saw a 50% drop, meaning it took them twice as long to accomplish the same thing. So, exercise, in effect, creates time.”

Chris Brogan, ChrisBrogan.com

I don’t watch television, so that gives me several minutes (or hours) most people don’t have.

Danielle LaPorte, White Hot Truth

“Keep your ego in check. Don’t let the popularity contest known as social media suck you in. If you focus on making quality stuff – from content to services, time frittered on Twitter and Facebook seems far less important – because it is.”

Rich Brooks, Flyte Blog

Set up iGoogle for RSS feeds from industry leading blogs. That way, over a cup of coffee, I can catch up on the most important news that affects our industry and see trending topics based on who’s blogging about what.

Another tactic many of my clients use is the ‘touch once’ principle, which means they resolve things the first time they encounter them…whether opened email or a telephone call.
Ruthlessly pare down your e-mail inbox – As a first step, cancel any e-mail newsletter subscriptions that you do not read anymore. If you subscribe to more than one newsletter in a certain category (e.g. innovation newsletters), choose the one that delivers the most value to you on a daily basis. If you’re still missing the other e-mail newsletters after two weeks, find out if they have a Twitter feed or some other way to receive their tidbits and advice. The e-mail inbox should only be for priority communication.

If you work for yourself or work from home, set strict office hours. This is an important rule for you and for everyone else in your life. These boundaries keep you at your desk and productive throughout the day and also remind people that you are a professional.
eCommerce startups are very popular on the internet. This is because people are quickly finding that buying stuff online is much more time-efficient and cost-efficient. Internet entrepreneurs understand this fact and all want to milk this opportunity. Hence, we see so many eCommerce startups mushrooming daily on the net.

In this post I discuss the top 5 eCommerce startup mistakes made by entrepreneurs:

Ignoring Online Trust Issues:

It is very difficult for an online consumer to trust a new eCommerce site. Right from doubts about th quality of the product to the pricing, they are very insecure. One of the reasons why eBay and Amazon are on a roll is that they have already established a huge degree of trust with their customers. So when you have an eCommerce site you need to be able to build on the trust. This can happen by getting featured on good websites or blogs. Other steps include a well-updated Privacy policy and other user agreements before the registration of a potential user.

Focusing on web development and neglecting marketing:

This is another very amateur mistake made by first-time internet entrepreneurs. They get so obsessed on making their eCommerce website aesthetic and conversion-oriented, they forget a basic thing – how will people find you? It is just so typical of few entrepreneurs to blow their budget on web development that they are left with nothing for their marketing efforts. Usually, a wise entrepreneur understands that he will need to spend more on marketing than he would do on developing the website. There is no point having a high-conversion website when no one is coming over to actually get converted. It is food for thought – chew on it.

Not Optimizing Your Web Analytics:

For whatever reason, either because some don’t understand web analytics or because they find it time consuming, web analytics of a business website is ignored. Get this one fact straight – your analytics are a treasure trove of intelligence data about your visitors and how visitors behave on your website. Nothing matches Google Analytics, so make sure you take a look and interpret all the data stored in your analytics dashboard. You don’t need to hire a special guy to interpret all the data for you – it literally is child’s play. Just give yourself some time with it.

Forgetting online visitors are not as committed as real visitors:

It is easier for brick and mortar businesses to sell (as compared to online stores). The main reason behind is that online visitors will never be as committed to buying something when browsing websites. Whereas, a person who has drove all the way from his home to your shop will have a much more higher chance of buying something from you.

So what does this mean? Well, it means that even small details will hugely affect your online store performance. Also, there are millions of other eCommerce website options which are just a few clicks away. This is a very tricky situation for any eCommerce startup.

Complicated Payment Gateways:

So many times when I have brought stuff online, the only step that remains is to pay. Then opens a complicated checkout/ payment gateway – if anything I start to get worried about where my money is going. Sometimes I am just unable to figure out how to go about the payment gateway because they look fishy as well as are totally non-intuitive (a very bad combination). Moral of the story- you will lose customers you had by the balls if your payment gateway sucks! Make checking out smooth and easy, even if it means investing that extra bit, because that is what will keep your customers returning to your online store.

That’s all for now folks! Let me know your suggestions on mistakes made by eCommerce startups.

Creating a presence online is not easy, but there is no reason why it is impossible to do so. All it takes is a little intelligent planning for getting your voice across. You need to build a powerful presence so that you have a devoted community that will help spread your word. So before we move ahead, we assume that what you want to share is actually worth spreading.

Here are 5 ways entrepreneurs can boost their online presence:

Take Time Out To Analyze Your Competition

Your online presence or impact is relative to the presence that your competitor has generated. So if you take time out to analyze your competitors presence, you can get a good idea about the ground work that you need to catch up with. Check what sites link back to them and understand what keywords are clicking for them.

Connect with Real People on Social Network

Many internet entrepreneurs and bloggers make the expensive mistake of mass marketing. They would prefer to spend hundreds of dollars on softwares that promise to generates thousands of followers. Although, they may end up with many followers – few to nil of them would actually be clicking through your links. Most of them would be spam accounts that are worth nothing. Your main focus should be on getting followers who are actual people. Getting fifty followers who actually give a damn about what you write is much more preferable than 1000 followers who would simply add numbers to your Twitter profile.

Take Your Brand Seriously

Focus on building a brand from Day 1. A brand defines the real character of a company or website. An intelligent internet entrepreneur can leverage good brand value to create a strong presence online. If your readers and visitors develop a strong affinity to your brand then you will find that your task of creating an online presence becomes much easier.

Always Have A Face To Your Blog/Website

Credibility is a factor that can really make or break your online presence. And you have to utilize all available options to boost your credibility. Having a face in the about page, with a name and a little personal detail can go a long way in building credibility. Once you are a person who is recognized by a doting community – it becomes easy for you to create a powerful presence online.

Deliver The Best

This is the final tip for creating a presence online. Always deliver the best content and pieces out there. Photos, Infographics and graphs – all add detail to your content. It helps you generate a much more quality piece of information for your readers. As far as I know, no blog or website has got popular without quality. So remember, deliver the best.

Everyone want to know what makes a particular internet entrepreneur so successful. After all, his personality and life has also been like many of us. It was normal and then all of a sudden he is splashed on magazine covers and newspaper front page referred to as a young millionaire. So here is an effort which describes the characteristics of successful internet entrepreneurs. Examples show how a particular trait in their personality helped them become successful.

Vision

No internet entrepreneur can be supremely successfully in his venture without a powerful vision to back it. A vision is basically what you expect to achieve out of your venture. A vision like – ” I will make loads of money,” is a poor vision for any entrepreneur.

Example: One of the most stunning visionary internet entrepreneurs whom I have seen is Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales. He had a very powerful vision behind the website – Wikipedia. In a 2004 interview, Wales outlined his vision for Wikipedia: “Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge. That’s what we’re doing.” The growth and prominence of Wikipedia made Wales an Internet celebrity.

Ambition

Ambitious men generally make good entrepreneurs. Internet entrepreneurs need to be on an over-drive of ambition. Because, unlike everything else the internet has a phenomenal reach. Most internet entrepreneurs who have set historic landmarks in terms of internet business have had epic ambition within them.

Example: Jeff Bezos displayed ambition in founding Amazon.com, a Web portal that retails virtually any book, video game, or consumer electronic a buyer could wish to find. It took awhile for Amazon to become profitable with such a wide focus. But Jeff Bezos ensured that he leaves a legacy behind him.

Adaptability

When you begin an internet company you can be assured that there are new technologies and fiercer competitors coming up everyday. And if you are the kind of person who fails to adapt quickly and adopt the new techniques then your internet business can become obscure. Because a good start may not necessarily ensure the continual success unless you adapt. This is one of the most profound characteristics in any internet entrepreneur – the ability to adapt, by learning or unlearning things as and when required.

Example: A good example of an internet entrepreneurs failing to adapt to the changes is that of Myspace, Orkut etc. when pitted against Facebook. When Facebook came and revolutionized the social networking scene it was the responsibility of the guys over at Mysapce to level up their game. Instead, they did not cater to the new needs. So we can see that Myspace has surrendered to Facebook in a recent agreement.

Creativity or Ingenuity

This is the number one trait every successful internet entrepreneur possesses. All it takes to make an internet fortune these days is one brilliant idea. And the idea comes from the most creative of individuals. There are so many internet companies out there that it becomes imperative for you to be creative in the approach to any business idea.

Example: An amazing example of creativity for an internet business is that of internet entrepreneur Evan Williams. Evan is the founder of the extremely popular micro-blogging platform – Twitter. Now, it was something really ingenuine and super-creative from Evan Williams to come up with a site that would allow users to share real time updates in 140 characteristics.

Focus

Successful internet entrepreneurs have this innate ability to focus on the core functionality of their business. It is very easy to forget what your business is all about and get distracted to give attention to other lesser important things. In an online business, it is very important that you have the focus on the main service which you provide.

Example: The best example for focus exhibited by an internet entrepreneur would have to be that of Max Levchin. When Paypal was launched it began to grow at a break-neck speed. It would have been very easy for him to neglect the fraud cases that was plagueing Paypal and instead focused on the growth curve. But that is where he brough the entrpreneurial trait of focus to fix what is write in his business. He quickly began a comprehensive anti-fraud effort, making security priority number one at the fledgling online payment service. Paypal has stood the test of time because it satisfies the safety issue – which is a fundamental need where money is involved.

Courage

Are you the kind of person who believes in the power of thoughts? Then that is exactly what is required of a successful internet entrepreneur. Considering the volume of internet companies that are starting up daily, you as an internet entrepreneur need to courageous to foray into the uncertain territories.

Example: Kevin Rose is the founder of Digg.com. Rose worked as a breadstick maker at The Olive Garden. When Rose was starting Digg, he invested $6000 into the site, which was supposed to be for a deposit on a house for him and his girlfriend. As a result of this, their relationship broke down. If Digg had gone bust, he would have lost his girlfriend and also ended up $6000 poorer. Another example is related to Google, Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page were not money-chasing businessmen, but people who truly wanted to build the best search technology in the world. Neither of them had any clue what practical applications any of their work would have when they maxed out their personal credit cards to buy servers and computer parts; they simply knew they were onto something and felt a burning desire to bring superior technology into being.

Patience

The internet is filled with stories of how people became overnight millionaires and financially free with a simple website. Such over night stories are not true. Most of them will tell you the amount of hard work that they put in years before it seemed to look like an overnight success. You would be shocked at the huge amount of patience that successful internet entrepreneurs practice before they hit the limelight. So patience is a trait you would see in most internet entrepreneurs.

Example: More than entrepreneurs, better examples would be of reputed bloggers who became authoritative by purely writing on their blog. Most super-successful bloggers you would see today are people who have been blogging for a minimum of the last 5 years viz. Darren Rowse etc

Social

Being social does not necessarily mean that you become a party animal at Las Vegas, that would mean defeating the purpose! What social means is that you need to be communicative with people and have the knack to meet new contacts. People need to know that you exist. Most internet entrepreneurs maintain their personal blog and maintain a presence on major social sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Example: Mark Zuckerberg, the world’s youngest billionaire who is considered to be socially inept is actually communicative. It was co-founded as a private company in 2004 by Zuckerberg and classmates Dustin Moskovitz, Eduardo Saverin, and Chris Hughes while they were students at Harvard University. And without the help of these people Mark could never have got Facebook to the height it has reached today. So internet entrepreneurs need to be fairly communicative about their needs to others.
