CPC – Cost-Per-Click programs are the advertising models that pay webmasters for each click a visitor makes on the ads. CPC ads are the easiest and the best way for a small-scale blogger to monetize their website. All bloggers who are interested in making money online after starting a small blog will turn to CPC ads.

A few of my readers have sent me an email after reading the following post which has earlier been discussed – Which is better CPM or CPC Model Of Advertising?

Many readers have asked which is the best CPC for a small blogger? First of all defining a small blogger would be via the daily traffic hits he gets. A small blogger can have anywhere from 100 to 200 unique visitors per day to make the blog feasible enough to monetize.

List of best CPC/PPC ads for a small-scale bloggers:

Bidvertiser: They allow pay-per-click advertising on your site. You can display the BidVertiser text ads on your website or blog, get paid for every click and have the payments sent directly to your PayPal account. They are great for small bloggers because they have a very small payout amount – only $10.

Bidvertiser also gives its publishers an attractive referral program, which means that you will also be paid for every user you refer.

AdBrite: They are another great choice of CPC/PPC advertisements for a small blogger. This is mainly because they allow for different kinds of ads such as - text ads, in-line ads, full page ads and banners. Due to the availability of different kinds of ad formats any level of blogger can try AdBrite and test conversions on different kinds of ads.

Adbrite has a payout of $50, which is again a suitable minimum payout for a small blogger.

A blogger who has just started off to make money online from his blogs and websites, CPC (Cost-Per-Click) ads will be the lifeblood of his revenues. Although there are other options like selling affiliate products, CPC continues to be very popular among bloggers for monetizing traffic. Google Adsense is the most popular CPC program online. The flat fee payment banner ads can only be achieved when the site has a significant amount of traffic and generates thousands of pageviews per month – which of course, a new site cannot have immediately.

(Related Post- Which is better: CPC or CPM Model of Advertising?)

Google Adsense continues to be the first stop for any webmaster who wants to run CPC ad on his site. Unfortunately, the approval for a ad publisher account for Google Adsense has become an arduous task over the years. It has become very difficult for a webmaster to get his site approved for Google Adsense, most of them experience rejection of their applications over various reasons. In fact, sometimes the grounds of rejection are not even valid.

So, here are the top 5 popular alternatives to Google Adsense:

AdBrite

It is the closest that you can get to Google Adsense. Most of the features of AdBrite make it as effective as Google Adsense to monetize web traffic. AdBrite allows you to run ads from other networks as well alongside their ad banners. They have a payout value of $50 as compared to $100 threshold for Google Adsense payouts.

Chitika

Chitika is different and you cannot call it a direct alternative to CPC like Adsense. But it sure can surpass or match the earnings of Google Adsense. Instead of displaying the standard ad boxes with image, video and text. Chitika provides active boxes that show targeted products from your advertising campaigns. Pro-blogger Darren Rowse openly claims Chitika to be his number 2 source of revenue after Google Adsense.

Bidvertiser

Another great alternative to Google Adsense is Bidvertiser. However, when you put up their scripts on your site don’t expect it to show targeted ads. They have a very poor advertiser base that harms bloggers who use CPC ads to show keyword based ads. The main benefit of Bidvertiser is that they allow you to cash out at $10 – right into your Paypal account.

Clicksor

Clicksor is a very fitting alternative to Google Adsense. Clicksor offers a wide range of ad formats including all of the standard Adsense formats that are available. Apart from this, Clicksor is popular among bloggers for their pop-under advertisements, which have proved to be very high-performing for many publishers.

AdOnion

This cannot exactly be called an alternative to Google Adsense. However, AdOnion is more of a market-place where you can directly approach advertisers who may be interested in your site. You can decide to set the price of your choice. The best part about AdOnion is that they allow you to also earn from impressions.

More and more bloggers are search for good alternatives to Google Adsense for monetizing their blogs. CPC alternatives are plenty but all of them may not be that good option for you. There are many CPC programs that are ineffective and are a big waste of time and traffic for webmasters. It is frustrating to see a high-traffic site perform poorly in CPC campaigns. This is why this post is a research on the top 5 alternatives to Google Adsense for bloggers.

There are two popular models of advertising on the internet: Cost-Per-Click (CPC) and Cost-Per-Mille (CPM) used by bloggers. Many webmaster make use of CPC and CPM ads to make money from their websites and blogs. But many have a doubt, whether CPM or CPC advertising is better for their blog. This post will examine this question that is asked by many bloggers.

The case with both these advertising models are that they might perform well for one person, but not that well for another. All ad publishers might not enjoy the same earning from CPC as others do. It is possible that some sites perform better for CPM.

What is Cost-Per-Click (CPC)?

Cost Per Click is the most popular advertising model that is used by webmasters today. CPC advertising is simply stated an advertising model where the ad publisher earn for each click on the advertisers ad. The most popular examples of a CPC ad is Google Adsense. Google Adsense is a very popular CPC program for ad publishers that displays contextual ads that are relevant to the keywords used in articles.

The cost-per-click of an ad may vary according to the advertisers. Some advertisers are ready to pay the publishers in two-digit dollar amounts for a single click on their ad. Whereas, there are many advertisers who pay only a few cents for each click on their ad. The advertisers who know that they will be earning almost 20-30 times more from the lead generated per click will be willing to pay a few dollars for each click on their ad. The other advertisers who do not earn that much from a lead will pay less to publishers. Of course, advertisers who pay more get to be listed on websites that use uncommon keywords. This is why it is important that a publisher needs to focus on the keywords he uses while advertising with the CPC model. Some keywords will pay a publisher a lot of money for each click whereas, some keywords will only pay a single cent.

Another important factor is that to make a decent amount of money from CPC ads, you need an above average traffic level to your site. There are so many bloggers who are frustrated from CPC ads due to the low earnings they register. Most sites can only generate a few cents of revenue in a month from ads.

Advantages of CPC ads

Before coming to CPM ads, here are some advantages of the Cost-Per-Click (CPC) ads:

It is easier to get approved for a publisher account of CPC ads.

CPC ads are keywords based, so you can earn a lot for targeted search engine traffic.

There is no limit to how much you earn in a month from CPC ads, you may earn only a few dollars in a month and earn in four figure the next month.

Disadvantages of CPC ads

There are always two sides of a coin, so along with the advantages of CPC ads there are also some disadvantages:

You need a good amount of traffic if you want to earn a decent amount from CPC.

Mostly effective on Search Engine Traffic.

Earnings are very dependent on the placement of ads.

What is CPM?

CPM is an acronym for Cost-Per-Mille. Quite simply, the definition of CPM ads can be explained as the cost an advertiser pay for a thousand views of his ad. This advertising model is impression based, so the advertisers is paid simply for displaying the advertisers ad whether they are clicked or not.

There are many CPM advertisers on the internet. The main advantage of putting up CPM ads on your site is that you do not have to worry about whether your ads are clicked or not. In fact, you have to focus on your website’s traffic aspect. Since you are paid for every thousand impression under the CPM ad model it is important for you to generate as much traffic as possible to your site as possible.

There will not be much difference whether your traffic comes for targeted search engine keywords or direct hits. CPM eliminates the risk involved i.e. whether your ad is clicked or not. You will be paid for every thousand impressions it has – which is why it is sought after by many bloggers who do not specialize in keywords.

Advantages of CPM

Great for publishers who do not have targeted keyword-based traffic.

Can be placed anywhere. The placement of CPM ads does not matter at all.

There is no risk involved since one only needs traffic and does not require the reader to click on the ads.

Disadvantages of CPM

It is difficult to get approved for a CPM publisher account as they ask for a minimum site traffic (10k+/month) requirement when you submit your application.

Since a site does not have huge traffic level fluctuations except in rare cases, your earnings are predictable and capped to an extent.

Bottomline

So it is easy to understand that the CPC and CPM ad models may not perform well for every publisher. Some advertisers who get a lot of targeted search engine traffic can earn more from CPC ads rather than CPM ads. And sometimes the earnings you get from every thousand impressions of your page may be more than the income from clicks made on your ads. It is important that you do a little bit of a experimenting and testing before you finally decide on your advertising model among these two.

Whenever a dude wants to monetize his blog, the biggest issue they face is regarding the perfect method of monetization. They have affiliate links, cpm ads and cpc ads. Basically, any kind of Advertising they find under the roof. This is a very Incorrect and Unprofitable way to monetize your site. The reason for this is that when you have included too many streams of income, you may achieve a little bit of everything – and that may not be enough for a payout.

You may quit mid-way and become frustrated at the fact that you are some 20 or 10 dollars short of payout. It is very frustrating trust me. Moreover, too many types of ads may become a big reason for turn-off for a visitor. Most visitors wont mind ads – unless you keep irritating them with unnecessary pop-ups and sure-to-fail products.

My advice is that focus on a single stream of income. If you really like to experiment on all the streams of income like many pro-bloggers, my suggestion would be to have more blogs under your umbrella. That again means more of daily updating and more hardwork.

There are many ways to monetize your blog -

pay-per-click

pay-per-mille-impression

affiliate

text-links

Direct Ad Sales

Of which, Pay-per-click is perhaps the most popular and Direct Sales are the most sought-after kind of advertising by webmasters. Direct Ad spot sales are compatible with any kind of blogs, however, affiliate selling may not suit everyone. Text-links are again a non-intrusive form of advertising and you should definitely consider it.

The main decision you need to make is regarding whether you prefer Pay-per-click or Pay-per-Mille or Affiliate. Don’t do all three together or either of the two together. You are most likely to lose any prospective income you otherwise could have earned.

Hope you enjoyed this post. Do comment.
