A strong SEO strategy is generally the main characteristics of a High-Traffic blog. There are many popular blogs on the internet and I decided to study the few points which make them really popular. And surprisingly, I found out that most blogs do not have a very complex SEO campaign or anything as such. Most of the SEO strategy they follow is quite simple to execute and in fact, common sense really.

SEO Tips From Popular Blogs

Here are 5 SEO tips I learned from popular blogs:

Awesome Publishing Frequency: Most blogs that are hugely popular post almost 3 posts everyday. Their articles may not be of particularly high-quality or very long in length but the posting frequency is amazing. Google bots love blogs that post 2-3 articles everyday. It is easier to earn authority in Google if you have a high publishing frequency. Post frequently even if you article length goes down to about 250-300 words.

Strong Internal Links: This is a very key point in popular blogs. All their articles have interlinks to almost 3-4 other related articles. These related articles are interlinked under anchor texts. This makes it easier for bots to crawl older posts as well. Moreover, it allows you to expose your readers to other cool older articles on your blog. Google has also explicitly stated that a website with strong internal links is generally ranked higher in Search engine results (SERPs).

No Keyword Obsession: Ever since a blogger begins to blog he is taught the importance of keywords. Most beginners end up stuffing the keyword umpteen number of times in their articles. What I noticed in popular blogs is that they hardly obsess over keywords in their articles. Of course, they appear a couple of times maybe, but otherwise they mainly optimize for a keyword by using their URL structure, Headline and tags. This way the reader is also not irritated by the recurring keywords in the post. It is indeed an art to SEO a blog post.

Natural Link Building: Building links naturally is the way to go. Popular blogs hardly focus on link building in the initial stages of their blog. Their main strategy to gain back links is by writing such excellent posts that it gets viral-ed and linked by webmasters from other blogs. Also, a good guest post routine is perhaps the best way to earn quality and natural backlinks.

Just the correct basics: This is actually a final point which will tell you the bottom line about the SEO followed by popular blogs. They know the importance of SEO, but do not go overboard with it. Whenever, you write an article, keep SEO in the back of your head and prioritize your readers. It is much more important to establish and emotional connect with your readers rather than have a blog that is made for SEO.

I learned that you can educate yourself well about SEO. But do not make it a very desperate part of your game plan. Most popular blogs know that the best way to SEO their blog is by keeping things as simple as possible. Hope you found this post useful. Do leave your comments below.

This is an article that will teach you to search engine optimize your each blog post so you can enjoy higher levels of traffic. I am a big SEO enthusiast, I love the whole concept of link building, keywords and meta-tags. A good SEO campaign can do wonders for your sites traffic.

Here I have discussed 7 powerful ways to SEO a blog post:

SEO a Blog Post

Divide Your Article Into 3 Basic Parts:

This is something that you learn at grammar school, the same applies to your blog posts as well. Your article should be clearly divided into three parts:

An introductory paragraph that contains the longtail keywords you are aiming at.

The main body of your article, which has all the juice.

A clean conclusion which summarizes the points above.

Keywords In Your Post Title:

Your post title itself should contain the main keyword you are aiming at. Usually, it is a good strategy to include longtail keywords in your post title as it helps you rank well in search engines more easily.

Related Post: 3 Tips To Choose The Correct Keywords For SEO

Limit Your Post Title To 40 Characters:

Limiting your post title to a maximum of 40 characters is important. Long and winding titles hardly catch a readers attention. On the other hand, limiting your post title to 40 characters will also ensure that the whole title shows up in the search engine results.

Internally link To A Previous Post:

This is very important to the overall site SEO. Also, interlinking will allow a reader to understand the article in more depth or perhaps learn more about it. Interlinking will also positively affect the crawling of your site.

Follow The Keyword Pyramid:

I call it the keyword pyramid – this is a basic rule that is followed by professional freelance writers for SEO. There are many people who are confused how many times should a particular keyword be included in the article. The answers is – follow an inverted pyramid. Which means, your keyword density should be high in the beginning of the article and reduce as the article ends.

Fill Out Your Tags Diligently:

Tags and categories need to be filled out by you. Your tag column should contain all the keywords that you have used within your blog post. Also, select an appropriate category. After writing a blog post, many bloggers become lazy to type out the post tags. You should make sure you fill them out diligently.

Add An Image/Flowchart:

It is a great idea to add a properly tagged picture or flowchart within your content. Because, image searches can also be a good source of traffic for you if you tag it correctly and merge into your keyword rich content.

When you write a blog post, try to keep it as natural as possible without forcing keywords into it. Push keywords cleverly into your blog post. Don’t be obsessed with SEO, but always keep it in the back of your mind. Leave your thoughts on this article below.

Keywords have the capacity to make or break your website. Also if you rank well for particular keywords, you can also make money online. Marketing your websites keywords is a big way of making money online. But for any niche, there are many keywords which you can make use of so it can be a difficult task to choose the correct keywords. Keywords are what will help you in your SEO campaign. All the organic searches arrive at your website by searching for keywords on search engines. Therefore, a webmaster or blogger has to be very responsible while choosing keywords for his website.

Here are 3 tips to choose for SEO keywords for your website:

Understand your audience: Before you select keywords for your website, make sure that you understand your audience. Your audience should be able to get an idea about your niche from the keywords which you have made use of.

Brainstorm: Do a complete brainstorm on all the possible keywords that a person can enter. Make sure that you write down both the short-tail and longtail keywords that users might search for online. Normally, you should go for keywords that have high to medium search volumes. There are a few good tools available on the internet to do your keyword research. Some of them are: Google AdWords, Wordtracker, Good Keyword, etc.

A final tip: Don’t go for keywords that are very competitive. If the keywords you are implementing on your website are such that all webmasters use it, then it can be very difficult for you to establish yourself. You should try and focus on longtail keywords or other keywords that are not too difficult for a new website to rank in Search engines.

Related Post: Apple Longtail SEO For Small Blogs

These are 3 basic tips that you can make use of to gain authority and traffic to your blog. Keywords are very important if you want organic traffic. It is also seen that a reader trusts websites that are found through organic search engines. Eventually you can generate authority for your blog for a particular keyword. And once you have an authority blog it also becomes an opportunity for you to make money from it.

Backlinks are the main driving force for your SEO campaign. Here are 3 new ways to get quality backlinks from sites that are highly trusted by Google. The link building methods below are not conventionally used by most bloggers or webmasters. So I can assure you that they will be pretty interesting for you.

Here are 3 new ways to get quality backlinks:

Your Social Network Profiles: This is a very effective way to get some link juice from your social network profile. The first social account that comes into mind is Twitter. Twitter is very effective in getting backlink from a high Pagerank URL. If you have ever noticed, you will find that each Twitter user has an independent URL with its own Google Pagerank. For example my Twitter Profile (@VivekKrishnan) has a pagerank of 3.

There are many social networking sites that provide you space to enter the URL you own in the Bio section. Make sure that you optimize the potential of these high Pagerank social sites. Apart from the link juice they are also a great source for some residual traffic.

Press Release: If used effectively, press releases can get you a lot of one-way backlinks to your site. There are many do-follow press release websites online. You can search for them on Google. However, just ensure that your content is newsworthy and has an attractive title as this will make your press release more popular among readers. Also, you should link back to your website under an anchor text so that it benefits your link building.

File Sharing Sites: This is where you can upload files and documents to the server of these file sharing sites. So what you should do is that, you can take a blog post and then upload them onto a file sharing site. Of course, you should not forget to link back to your site underr an anchor text. As this is where you will be getting the link juice.

There are many sites such as Scribd, where you can upload pdf format of your articles. This site is trusted by Google and can prove to be an excellent back link for your website.

SEO is synonymous to traffic. So if you boost your site SEO by building quality backlnks then it will automatically result in high traffic. There are many other ways to build quality backlinks, but the 3 ways provided above are quite unused by most webmasters and are very new.

Most bloggers want to make their WordPress blog “DoFollow” but unfortunately, many are clueless on how it is made possible. Of course, you can directly customize the code to make your blog “DoFollow” but it is not at all recommended as it is risky and you may damage your template code.

However, the easiest way to make your WordPress blog a DoFollow blog is by downloading and installing a plugin. You can download the plugin here or you can search for “DoFollow” in your WordPress dashboard – the plugin is created by Semiologic.

DoFollow blogs are in great demand on the internet and there are many bloggers who release a list of “DoFollow” blogs. The main reason why there is such a great demand for “DoFollow” is that Search Engine spiders then consider your commenters link as a backlink to them. And of course, then it becomes obvious that commenting on DoFollow blogs is the easiest way to generate valuable backlinks back to a site.

The “nofollow” attribute was introduced in 2005, in an effort to discourage comment spam. But one of the biggest disadvantage of a “NoFollow”attribute is that your interlinking between posts may also turn out to be “NoFollow” – which means spiders do not crawl it.

Make your WordPress blog “DoFollow”, as in my personal opinion, it is useless to have a “nofollow” blog as it does not make any difference to you and you stand nothing to gain from it. Whereas, if your blog is “DoFollow” then you can be assured that soon you will be able to create a loyal reades base who will comment on your blog posts passionately.

I recently made a guest post at Harsh Agrawal’s ShoutMeLoud. You can read it here. This post is simply a description on what was the experience that I had on making a guest post on ShoutMeLoud.

PROS:

1) The first and biggest advantage of guest posting on ShoutMeLoud is the easy way to register and login to the ShoutMeLoud dashboard as a contributor. You can make all the tweaks, add images when you make your post.

2) The acceptance time is fairly low. If your post is accepted by the admin you will get a mail telling you that your guest post is accepted and when it will be published. This adds a lot more motivation to make a guest post because I just hate to wait for a week or so before the a guest post is published – and many webmasters fail to tell you whether your post is accepted or not. It keeps you on tenterhooks and its frustrating.

3) Your Link will be shown in the first few lines of introduction before the post. In case, you are unaware this adds a lot of SEO benefit. Google gives more link juice to links that are hyper-linked in the beginning of the post rather that at the bottom. This is because traditionally links are put at the bottom when there are articles in a article directory- and spiders know that. So I was really glad about this point that my link was at the top.

CONS:

1) Considering how authoritative ShoutMeLoud is, I expected a hell lot of traffiic. But I am sorry to tell you that my guest post hardly managed to get me 10 visitors. Now is this because of bad content quality – I don’t know. But I do not think that is that case.

2) I was really hoping that guest posting would earn me a few cents out of ShoutMeLoud revenue sharing program but again I was disheartened as I have not been able to get anything out of the revenue sharing program – yet!

All in all, you should post at ShoutMeLoud – it is a Page Rank 5 blog and it does have a lot of readers. But don’t think that you would have a tidal wave of visitors or your RSS subscribers will increase by a 100. It is still among the best blogs where you can put in a guest post.

We all know that the main way to search optimization (SEO) is through keywords and there is no point blogging for money unless you have SEO clear in the back of your mind. In the internet, as the number of websites and blogs grew there became a fierce competition to rank in the top 10 of Google’s or any search engine results. Webmasters began applying all ways to get to the top and thus, there was born Longtail SEO. Longtail SEO is a boon for small blogs like mine – because it is a great way to get traffic even if you do not have a very big presence on the internet.

SEO is done with keywords. There are two kinds of keywords, longtail keywords and short keywords. Using longtail keywords for SEO is called Longtail SEO. The basic concept of Longtail keywords started when blogs/websites with no authority began to rank in the number 1 of Google and other Search Engine results. These websites did not rank for major keywords but instead longer keywords that were not searched that commonly.

To state an example of longtail keywords, suppose you have a website on Dan Brown (popular author of The Da Vinci Code and more lately, The Lost Symbol). So you may choose to search engine optimize it by inserting the keyword as “Dan Brown”. But it will be very difficult for you to rank in the top 10 of Google’s search results when someone searches for the term “Dan Brown”, especially if you have a new site. On the other hand if you choose your SEO keyword as “Facts about Dan Brown”, then you are sure to get a good position in Google’s search results.

The main reason for the success of Longtail keywords in small and new websites is that most major and big websites will always target the main keywords since they are authority sites. You, on the other hand can enter the market and the dog-eat-dog world of blogging by optimizing the advantages posed by Longtail SEO.

So what will be the type of traffic that you get from Short Term SEO and Longtail SEO? As you can guess, if you are using Longtail SEO you are sure to get high conversion (if you sell), however, the traffic that you may generate will be much lesser than what you might expect from a main keyword.

On the other hand, if your website is ranked well for a main keyword (short term SEO) then you are sure to get a high amount of traffic to your website. However, don’t expect that your conversions will be proportional to the traffic that you get.

This article is like a crash course on Longtail SEO. Longtail SEO is in fact quite an exhaustive Search Engine Optimization technique. I will be covering more topic on Longtail SEO in future posts.

Let me know Your thoughts below.

There are many key points that a successful blogger employs when he frames a title for his post. For he knows that no matter how exquisite his post may be or how life-altering it may be for the reader, a poor title will ensure only one thing – that his post remains unread.

Simplicity: This is one of the key points of any successful post. Suppose if this post which you are reading was kept the following title – “Secrets of Optimality Conditions for a Blog Article under the Title”. Obviously, you would be totally put off. A simple title will also help you in search engines. If you keep your title under 40-words then you ensure that the whole title appears when it turns up in the search engine results.

Magnetism: The title should be so magnetic that it forces a reader to click on the title to read what it is all about. This can be done by some controversial topic, a shocking claim or humor. These things add to the magnetism of a title.

Satisfy a Need: The most successful posts on Digg and other book marking sites are “How to” posts. These posts meet a need of a reader. Tutorial posts teach a person something new which they can apply. So invariably, most bloggers will find the topic quite attractive.A title which suggests that it will help in solving some of the readers problems are quite popular.

Describe: Don’t try to be extra smart and create an element of suspense in your post by not letting your readers what it is about. Most will end up ignoring it. Best title is one which informs the reader what they will get out of it when they read it.

Key Word: Be sure not to forget including a key word into your title. Your title is SEO gold. So if you do not enter any key word in post then you will find that your post will fail to be optimally placed in search engine results.

The final tip is to tell you that take your time when you keep a title. First impression is the last impression. Most readers unfortunately judge a book by its cover, so make sure that your title is attractive for a readers. This will also help in enhancing his reading experience.

These are a few pointers on how I end up ruining my hard earned Search Engine Result Placement (SERP) on Google. I hope you do NOT follow them.

Irregularity: Since I post at more than one of my blogs, I generally tend to be tired to post on this blog. The reason is poor time management. If I have a specific time allotted to posting for each blog, then I will be able to make an entry in each of my blogs efficiently. But unfortunately, I sometimes end up doing things on the internet that are un-productive (no, not porn!), Facebook Apps (maybe!). So this is one great way I screw my SERP (Search Engine Result Placement).

Short Posts: Any pro-blogger would recommend you to write a blog entry of at least 400+ words. This way you are providing yourself a better placement in search engine rankings. But unfortunately, sometimes I get very hasty and post short posts of even 150 words. This is a big no-no if you want good SERPs. It is always preferable to write posts that are long and dense with keywords. Always write long posts unless of course, you don’t have much to write. In that case, restrict yourself and save the reader from his agony of reading your post.

No SEO: Sometimes I get so saturated of typing that although I have written a legendary post for everyone to read. I am too pissed off to fill in the All-in-One SEO plugin form to optimize my content. That is very bad for SEO. I also sometimes omit tags, forget selecting categories etc. Each time anything like this has happened, Google has punished the SERP of my blog grandly. It is like Google has a personal vendetta against me.

Poor Promotion: There is this notion which sometimes get into my head that my post will automatically viral itself to all the major social bookmarking sites. I am under an illusion that my blog content is so awesome good that everyone will tweet it, digg it and Stumble it. Next day, I realize the truth and usually after learning my lesson I myself bookmark it personally. The hard lesson I learnt was – you have to promote your content, no matter how good it is. In todays internet, the reader is spoilt for choice.

Change Theme Frequently: I don’t know about you, but I keep switching my theme like a maniac in one of my blogs. Its like a surprise party I organize for the Google bot, each time it comes to crawl my website- it is surprised to find a new template code for my url. As much as I wanted the surprise to be appreciated bythe bot – it is the opposite. I notice drastic drops in my traffic if I switch my theme too often. So you too BEWARE!

I hope my stupidities will make you a more intelligent blogger and help you maintain a good SERP.

To Our Success.
