The Cabell-Huntington Health Department Celebrates $1.9 Million in COVID-19 Federal Relief Reimbursement to Community Partners

Huntington, WV – The Cabell-Huntington Health Department (CHHD) presented a check representing $1.9 million in total reimbursement to Harmony House and the Huntington City Mission on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Cabell-Huntington Health Department.
CHHD was successful in obtaining $1,960,121.88 in COVID-19 federal relief reimbursement requested from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), for costs accrued with our partners in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a significant portion of the funding requested on behalf of many community partners involved in COVID-19 testing, vaccinations, and other mitigation strategies eligible for this reimbursement.
“Harmony House is grateful to the Cabell-Huntington Health Department (CHHD) for their efforts in securing funding and support for vaccination programs for those experiencing homelessness and the COVID-19 Isolation and Quarantine Shelter that operated from May 2020 to December 2022,” said Amanda Coleman, Executive Director of Harmony House. “Without this critical funding, persons experiencing homelessness in Cabell County would have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.”
“Responding to COVID-19 in our community was a collaborative effort, and we’re grateful for our local partners and their willingness to use their resources in the interest of public health,” said Dr. Michael Kilkenny, CHHD CEO and Health Officer. “Our community is fortunate to have strong service delivery systems, and CHHD is proud to partner in support of service to this very vulnerable population. I’m pleased that the Cabell-Huntington Health Department has been successful on behalf of our partners to receive relief reimbursement from FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security.”
